Hidden high within Mt Aspiring National Park, Lake Lochnagar is one of New Zealand’s most remarkable alpine helicopter wedding locations. Accessible only by helicopter, this glacier-fed mountain lake is surrounded by rugged peaks and dramatic ridgelines, creating an unforgettable setting for your wedding day.
From spring through autumn, the emerald-blue waters contrast beautifully against the surrounding alpine landscape. During winter, fresh snow transforms the mountains into a spectacular white wilderness. On calm days, the surrounding ridgelines and mountain peaks are reflected across the crystal-clear lake, creating one of the South Island’s most breathtaking natural settings for wedding photography.
Your scenic helicopter flight from Wānaka is part of the experience, soaring above lakes, valleys and mountain ranges before landing beside the lake. From arranging your helicopter flights and coordinating your celebrant, photographer, flowers, hair and makeup to guiding you through your New Zealand marriage paperwork, I personally take care of every detail, so you can simply relax and enjoy every moment of your wedding day.
What your day looks like
Your day begins at your accommodation, where you’ll enjoy a relaxed morning getting ready for your wedding.
Your hairstylist and makeup artist will come to you, allowing you to simply relax and enjoy the excitement of the day. Before you get dressed, your photographer will arrive to capture the details of your wedding, including your dress, flowers, jewellery and those quiet moments before your ceremony.
Once you’re ready, you’ll travel to the helicopter base, where your pilot will welcome you before taking you on a scenic helicopter flight to Lake Lochnagar.
After landing, you’ll have time to take in the spectacular alpine scenery before exchanging your vows in complete privacy. Following your ceremony, you’ll enjoy a relaxed photography session together while exploring this beautiful mountain location.
After your time on the mountain, you’ll return by helicopter before continuing your celebrations however you choose.

Is a helicopter wedding safe?
Yes. I work only with CAA-certified operators and hugely experienced alpine pilots, and every flight carries full insurance. The pilot always has the final say on the day — if conditions aren’t right to fly safely, we simply move to a beautiful alternative rather than take any risk. Your safety comes first, always.
