Eloping in New Zealand
What It Costs to Elope in New Zealand
An honest look at what an elopement costs, what's included, and what shapes the price.
An honest word about cost
I believe in being open about money — no one likes surprises when they’re planning something as special as a wedding. What an elopement costs comes down to what you’d like to include, and I’ll always talk it through with you plainly.
What shapes the price
- Your location — a lakeside ceremony is gentler on the budget than a private helicopter landing on a glacier.
- Photography — most couples want beautiful images of their wedding day. We recommend 3 hours of photography, as this provides plenty of coverage while allowing you to relax and enjoy your day.
- The extras — flowers, hair and makeup, a celebrant’s personalised ceremony.
- The marriage licence — a fixed NZ$158 government fee. I will assist you with this process.
- The Marriage Certificate — after your wedding day, I apply for your official New Zealand Marriage Certificate. If your home country requires your marriage to be legally recognised, I also arrange the appropriate documentation, including an Apostille or Authentication, depending on your country’s requirements.
Packages are a starting point
My wedding packages give you a clear idea of what’s included and what it costs. From there, I tailor everything to suit you — adding or trimming to build the day you want, at a price that feels right.

Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to elope in New Zealand?
An elopement can range widely depending on what you include. A simple ceremony with a celebrant and licence is modest; a helicopter wedding with photography, flowers and extras is more. My packages are a clear starting point, and I'll always be honest about what things cost so there are no surprises.
Is it cheaper to elope than to have a big wedding?
Almost always, yes. With just the two of you — or up to four guests — you spend on the experience, like the location, the helicopter and the photography, rather than catering for a crowd. Most couples find an elopement gives them a more meaningful day for far less.
What is included in an elopement package?
Every package includes the essentials — expert planning, marriage licence guidance, a registered celebrant, and all the coordination needed to create a seamless wedding day. Depending on the package you choose, your elopement may also include professional photography, videography, flowers, hair and makeup, transport, helicopter flights where applicable, and other personalised experiences. I also organise your official New Zealand marriage certificate after your wedding and, if required for your home country, arrange Apostille or Authentication.
