Earnslaw Burn Heli-Wedding – Glacier Valley Drama, Waterfalls & Wide Skies
Tucked beyond Glenorchy, Earnslaw Burn feels like a secret theatre of stone and light, a glacier-carved valley with towering cliffs, waterfalls tracing silver lines, and a wide floor where you can breathe. When the blades slow and the quiet returns, it’s just the two of you, the distant rush of falls, and that feeling that the world has opened just for your vows.
What it feels like
Spacious, cinematic, a little wild, but calm. You’ll have room to move, to hold each other, to take in the scale. On still days you can hear the water clearly; on breezy days the valley stays surprisingly gentle compared to ridge-tops.
Where is Earnslaw Burn?
Near Glenorchy (Queenstown region), accessed by helicopter. We land on the valley floor or a nearby terrace chosen on the day for privacy, light, and wind.
Seasons at a glance
Spring (Sept–Nov): Fresh greens, lively falls, snow still on high peaks; changeable weather.
Summer (Dec–Feb): Long light, warm tones, fuller waterfalls; popular season so we plan timing for privacy.
Autumn (Mar–May): Golden grasses, softer light, calmer conditions; beautiful for relaxed portraits.
Winter (Jul–Aug): Clear air, dramatic peaks, cool temps; we build in flexible timing and a gorgeous ground backup if needed.
June Pause: We don’t book June here (short days + unreliable conditions).
Spirit of place
This valley asks you to slow down. It has a grounded, enduring energy, more “cathedral” than summit, which is why so many couples feel instantly at ease here.
What your photos will look like
Epic scale with human tenderness: you two small against waterfalls and cliffs; close, quiet frames among golden tussock; wide-angle scenes that show the sweep of the valley. If conditions line up, soft mist or low cloud turns the place into pure cinema.
