Planning Your Elopement from Overseas? Here’s What to Know About Booking Direct

I’m Donna-Louise, founder of New Zealand Dream Weddings. I’ve been helping couples elope in the most breathtaking parts of New Zealand for Nearly 30 years.

“Your day deserves more than a safe option, it deserves to be deeply yours.”

When you’re planning a wedding in another country, especially somewhere remote and breathtaking like New Zealand, it’s completely natural to feel a little unsure about where to start.

For many couples, booking through an agent or travel coordinator feels like the easiest option. It seems safer, more familiar, and a little less overwhelming. And in some cases, it does work out fine.

But here’s something I’ve learned after 26+ years of planning elopements here in New Zealand:

You deserve more than a safe option. You deserve a deeply personal, grounded, and beautifully guided experience.

What Really Happens Behind the Scenes

In many cases, an agent will reach out to a local planner like me once the couple has booked. From there, I coordinate everything:

  • Secure permits
  • Arrange the location
  • Book helicopters and vendors
  • Create timelines
  • Make sure the weather plan is solid

Then that information is passed back to the agent, and from there, passed on to the couple.

We might not speak directly at all until the wedding day, even though I’m the one crafting the experience.

Why That Matters

When you book through a third party, it can:

  • Add significant fees that you may not see
  • Create delays in communication or updates
  • Keep you at arm’s length from the people actually bringing your day to life
  • Remove the chance for that deep trust and connection, the kind that really helps on the day itself

In many cases, agents haven’t visited New Zealand. They haven’t flown in our helicopters or stood on a mountain ridge in a storm. They haven’t navigated local conservation laws, weather systems, or vendor relationships firsthand.

What Happens When You Book Direct

Booking direct means reaching out to me personally. No middlemen, no layers. Just you and me, planning your day together from the very first conversation.

When you book directly with New Zealand Dream Weddings, you speak with me, Donna-Louise. I’ve spent nearly three decades planning elopements in this land, and I treat every wedding like it matters. Because it does.

Booking direct means:

  • You get personal answers to personal questions
  • Your experience is shaped by someone who knows the land and the logistics inside and out
  • There are no hidden markups or third-party fees
  • From start to finish, you have one person guiding you the whole way

This Isn’t About Cutting Anyone Out. It’s About Caring Enough to Be Honest

If you’ve already booked through an agent, that’s okay. And if working through one feels better for you, that’s okay too.

What matters most to me is that couples feel seen, supported, and truly cared for, whether they book with New Zealand Dream Weddings or with another company entirely.

Because at the end of the day, it’s not about the logistics.
It’s about the moment you say your vows, and knowing that everything leading up to that was built with care, clarity, and connection.

You Deserve a Wedding That’s Deeply Yours

I’ve built New Zealand Dream Weddings from the ground up, and I’m proud of every elopement I’ve helped bring to life. This isn’t just my business. It’s my life’s work.

So yes, I’d love to be the one who plans your day.
But more than that, I want you to feel seen, safe, and truly supported.

Because after 26+ years, one thing has never changed.
It’s not about making the sale. It’s about making the moment unforgettable.

Update – November 2025:
It’s been wonderful seeing more couples from the US, Australia, and beyond choosing to book their New Zealand elopements directly with me. Handling everything locally makes the process smoother and more personal, and even after nearly 30 years, I still love helping couples feel relaxed and cared for every step of the way.
