When I married into a Japanese family, I began to understand something I had already seen through many years of planning international elopements in New Zealand – how much care and quiet preparation sits behind a mixed-culture wedding day. These elopements often bring together different traditions, expectations, and family connections, and that understanding has shaped the way I support couples planning their elopements here, especially at Lake Tekapo.

Over the years I’ve worked with couples from Japan, across Asia, and from many other parts of the world who chose New Zealand for their wedding. Many of them are bringing together different cultural backgrounds, languages, or family traditions, and one of the most important parts of my role is helping the day feel calm, respectful, and thoughtfully planned from the beginning.
Even my own experience of being guided through traditional preparation for my Japanese wedding helped me understand how much attention sits in the small details – even the way a bride stands for photographs reflects the tone and care surrounding the day. That understanding stays with me when I help couples prepare for their own ceremonies in New Zealand.
Lake Tekapo has become one of the most meaningful locations for many international couples planning mixed-culture elopements. Its quiet landscape, open alpine light, and simple ceremony settings allow couples to focus on what matters most while still including the traditions that are important to them and their families.
When couples are planning their elopements in New Zealand from overseas, there are often questions about how the ceremony will feel, how preparations are arranged, and how everything comes together on the day. My role is to guide each step carefully – from ceremony planning and legal paperwork through to working with experienced photographers, celebrants, flowers, and hair and makeup artists who understand the pace and tone international couples are often looking for.
Over nearly 30 years of planning elopements across New Zealand, supporting mixed-culture weddings has become a natural part of my work. These are always thoughtful and personal days, and it is a privilege to help couples bring their stories together here.
